Scholarship Programs
Glacier Electric sponsors two scholarship programs each year, the MECA Scholarship and the Energy for Tomorrow Scholarship. Applications for the scholarships are available at the GEC offices, on this webpage, and at the Cut Bank, Browning, and Heart Butte high school counseling centers each year between January and March. One $500 MECA scholarship is awarded each March and ten $1,000 Energy for Tomorrow scholarships are awarded each April. For more information about our scholarship programs read below or visit your local Glacier Electric office.
Energy for Tomorrow Scholarship
The Energy for Tomorrow Scholarship program, which is funded by unclaimed capital credit checks, began in 2002. It is designed to offer opportunities to a wide range of students. Emphasis is placed on community service, extracurricular activities, and a personal statement written by the student. In their personal statement the applicants are asked to explain their future goals and elaborate on the people or events that have influenced their career choice.
The scholarship is open to all high school seniors whose parents or guardians are members of Glacier Electric Cooperative. Also, to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have an overall grade point average of at least 2.5, and must attend a college, university, or technical school the fall semester following graduation.
Each year the Board of Trustees selects a scholarship committee to evaluate each application and select 10 deserving students to receive the scholarships. The full board then gives final approval of the recipients.
If you are interested in applying for the Energy for Tomorrow Scholarship, visit your school counselor in February for an application.
GEC would like to thank all the students who applied for this year's scholarship. The 2011 scholarship recipients were: Kyle Berkram, Brock Calvi, Jordan Hoof, Nate Kavanagh, Lexie Ledbetter, Cori Losing, Morgan McDivitt, Austin Shilling, Nathan Voeller, and Amanda Wineman.
